    With an unspoiled, pristine view of the front range, Severance sits on the plains east of Fort Collins. Today's population is estimated at 1,519 and growing. Surrounded by serene farms and ranch land, Severance hosts a handful of businesses, the most famous of which is Bruce's Bar. Since 1959 when owner Bruce Ruth began serving Rocky Mountain Oysters, Bruce's Bar has been promoted as the place "where the geese fly and the bulls cry."

    Located in Weld County, Severance was founded in the late 19th century as an agricultural community, and the town remained primarily a small rural farming community based on the raising of cattle, sugar beets, potatoes, and onions. In the 1990s Severance began to grow aggressively especially as growth spilled over from nearby Windsor. The construction of new residential communities near the town has left the original agricultural community surrounded by modern construction and contributed to an upsurge in population. The town limits, extended through flagpole annexations, reach in tendrils nearly to Windsor and Fort Collins.
